DeWayne Backhus

Dr. DeWayne Backhus serves as a member of the Executive Committees of both the Kansas Space Grant Consortium and the Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program. At Emporia State University he is a Professor and Chair of the Division of Physical Sciences (departments of chemistry, earth science, physics, and secondary physical sciences education). The recipient of a BS, Emporia State University, a MA, Harvard University, and the PhD, the University of Kansas, academic specialties include planetary science, energy resources and resource management, and science education. Other NASA project involvements include the NASA JOint VEnture (JOVE) program (ESU was among the first thirty institutions in this program), and NASA Project NOVA. Backhus has served as an officer and board member for the Kansas Academy of Science, the Kansas Association of Teachers of Science, and the Kansas Natural Resource Council. He was selected as the Third Roe R. Cross Distinguished Professor at Emporia State University in 1981.
