“Some of the most exciting space education going on in this country is not coming out of Washington, or New York, or California, or even Texas. It’s coming from a place out in Kansas called the Kansas Cosmosphere.” —Eugene A. Cernan, Apollo 17 Astronaut and the last man to walk on the Moon.

National Activities
From the state level, the KSGC spans the United States to work with groups at the national political level and the national trade group level. In this way, a small school for Native Americans (Haskell Indian Nations University) can send its voice to our Kansas delegation in Washington, to NASA, and to industry, as highlighted in the following descriptions of the KSGC’s national activities:
- NASA Academies and other summer internships at NASA Centers
- National Council of Space Grant Directors met in Wichita, Kansas, the Air Capital of the World, October of 2003, the Centennial of Powered Flight
- Briefing Visit to Kansas Congressional Delegation in Washington
- NASA Strategic Enterprise: Aeronautics Working Group
- Experimental Aircraft Association’s National Convention
The NCSGD met in Wichita, Kansas, the Air Capital of the World, on 22-25 October 2003, the Centennial of Powered Flight. The council is lead by Chairman Bill Hiscock, Director of the Montana Space Grant Consortium.
The KSGC recruits students from Consortium schools to participate in NASA Academies. Through 2002, 14 Kansas students have been selected for this nationally competitive program. The students express gratitude for the unique experience of working at NASA, thus accomplishing a NASA Mission, “to inspire the next generation of explorers … as only NASA can.”
